Pink Flowers & Bouquets

Pink Flowers

Pink flowers are a romantic and amiable choice as winter thaws and spring romance fills the air.  The color pink symbolizes gentleness and admiration and is often associated with femininity and fertility.  From the palest and most subtle pink to fiery hot pinks, pink flowers can convey a range of feelings and sentiment.  Pink floral arrangements are a stylish choice for the everyday, or for that special occasion.  There are a multitude of flowers available in pink.  Some of our favorites are unique and distinct pink flowers that commingle a variety of shades and tonal ranges.

Pink Hydrangea’s are a tricky flower to grow and conditions must be perfect for them to change and maintain their pink coloration.  For this reason, they can have an array of variance even within a single petal creating texture and character.   Expressing love, gratitude and enlightenment, these pink flowers, with their globe shape, are worldly and sensual.

January wedding flowers are perhaps the most representative of a new beginning with the coming of the New Year and the new season.  Colors of white, light blue and purple come to mind, which intermingle beautifully with the snow and evergreens outside.  And of course, the lovely bride’s dress, white as a lily.january-wedding-flowers

Back Up Wedding Chuppah & Outdoor Wedding Ideas

An Outdoor Wedding at the Bronx Botanical Gardens

The summer of 2009 has been one of the rainiest summers to date, and this has been a concern at every outdoor wedding we’ve been involved with. One of our regular corporate clients was getting married and Big Apple helped her plan a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony at the Bronx Botanical Gardens complete with a back up wedding Chuppah in case of rain!

Wedding Chuppa at the Bronx Botanical Garden

Stephanie’s ceremony would require a traditional Chuppah. The Bronx Botanical Garden, where the outdoor wedding ceremony was planned, was prepared for this sort of thing, and already had a bare Chuppah structure.  Stephanie wanted to have the ceremony outside at the Botanical Garden and use the Chuppah structure that was already installed. It became our duty to create floral pieces that could easily be attached to the structure and look as natural and feminine as possible.

We had started planning for Stephanie’s outdoor wedding when we first got the news in the beginning of 2009.   Everyone at Big Apple was very excited and the wedding planning process began immediately.  Stephanie stopped by to exchange wedding ideas with Abu and they got the ball rolling.

Bridgewaters South Street Seaport Wedding Preparations

Bridgewaters in NYC is Our Upcoming Wedding Venue

Michael Candullo & Mary Kim Wedding August 28th, 2009

Bridgewaters in NYC is a little piece of South Street Seaport wedding heaven.  Last Spring we began planning the flowers and décor for a wedding taking place at Bridgewaters in Manhattan’s beautiful downtown harbor. Bridgewaters is a full service catering facility.  The wedding at Bridgwaters NYC will be taking place on August 28th of 2009.  When weddings take place at venues we may be unfamiliar with, the first step is to take a walk through of the venue with the clients to get a better idea of exactly what is going to be needed.  During the walkthrough with the bride, Mary Kim, and the groom, Michael Candullo, Abu was able to visualize what should be used to dress up this South Street Seaport wedding.

Bridgewaters Wedding Space

After viewing the Bridgewaters NYC wedding space, Abu and his clients decided that it would be best to use a mix of high and low arrangements to create more depth in Bridgewaters’ very open space.  The space also has a lot of outside light with wrap-around windows and amazing views of [Read more →]

Floral Wedding Colors & Trends 2009

Wedding Flower Colors This Year Are Bold & Beautiful

Floral wedding color schemes are taking on a common theme in recent months.  The more color, the better!  Deep orange, red and pink colors make a bold statement when guests walk into a room.

This summer especially, it seems that everyone is craving lots of rich colors to brighten up their special day.  Wedding color trends are becoming more and more daring.  The days of pastel colors are slowly changing, but one color always remains popular in many shades…any guesses? Here’s a hint…it’s been made into a branding theme for one popular lingerie company.

Yes, it’s PINK!  Perhaps one reason why pink remains tried and true for floral wedding color schemes is that it is incredibly versatile.  Pink floral wedding colors range from a pale hue to hot neon pink.

When combined with shades of gray and black or white, this floral wedding color combination makes one dynamic duo. It’s this splash of color, which also seems to be on the agenda for 2009 wedding color trends.

Studio 450; Saturday July 11th, 2009 - Quick Wedding Planning In Action

Thursday afternoon and my phone rang with a call from a Bride named Melonie. I had briefly chatted with her about 6 months earlier and she realized she totally forgot to plan her wedding flowers and needed some last minute wedding planning help.

She remembered Big Apple Florist and gave us a ring in hope that we would be able to make her vision a reality on very short notice.

After a 45-minute discussion over the phone I was able to e-mail Melonie some pictures of previous floral work and she emailed me images of stuff she collected. With last minute wedding ideas in mind, my flower buyer and designers were off and running.

We ended up working with Green Cymbidium Orchids and some white rocks for the reception and we used mostly roses for the ceremony - the bride’s favorite.  [Read more →]

A Wedding at the Alpine Country Club in N.J.

The Step by Step Story in Flowers turning the Alpine Country Club into a Bride’s Dream Wedding

Planning and prep for setting up a wedding is just as important and the special day itself.  We recently prepared for a wedding at The Alpine Country Club in New Jersey and no matter how lovely and professional a space, which the Alpine Country Club most certainly fits into that description, planning is still most important.

Planning for Karen’s Wedding at The Alpine Country Club

Karen was an amazing bride to work with; very detailed oriented and she knew exactly what she wanted which we really do love! The planning for the wedding began about a year and half before the magical day.  We had helped Karen plant her Engagement Party at the Penn Club and once that event was a great success, we knew it was time to start planning the wedding at the Alpine in NJ.    [Read more →]

Summer Wedding Flowers At The Foundry

The Foundry Long Island City for a Beautiful Summer Wedding

Hello my friends,

This is Abu and, as Ashley so eloquently introduced me in the last post, I am one of the floral designers at Big Apple Florist. I am so thrilled to be able to have this time with you.

Summer wedding flowers are some of our favorites.  We wanted to take this time to show to you some photographs of a summer wedding we recently finished working on that made us all very happy here.

Summer Wedding Flowers for Our Bride and Groom

The bride and groom are a lovely couple named Itzik and Maria. They were both delightful to work with and overall, both just really fun people. They wanted their summer wedding to be a big party, where all their guests could just have a good time, be happy and nothing too traditional.  Like many wedding couples, by the time they could talk to us, they had already decided on the date and the location of the wedding reception, the guest list, etc. which was perfect because we had a real starting off point.

The Foundry is the Perfect Summer Wedding Venue

The summer wedding festivities were to be held at The Foundry in Long Island City. It is a great space, both beautiful and modern, and many of our clients have had weddings there, so while we knew the space, I still like to meet our clients there and feel their own personal reactions based on their desires and their own personalities.

When I went over there with the happy couple, I was immediately inspired by [Read more →]
