Check out our lovely flower arrangements on the set of Anderson Cooper’s new daytime talk show, Anderson! Our floral designer Georgeanne created the flower decor using inspiration from Judy Collins’ 1967 album Wildflowers. We think they’re a perfect background setting for Judy Collins’ performance of “Amazing Grace” for Gloria Vanderbilt, if we do say so ourselves:
We love being a part of New York City events like this, and are happy to provide event flowers and floral decor for all occasions! Give us a call (212) 687-3434 for a consultation of your own.

Because the Big Apple Florist design studio is located a few blocks from the United Nations on 45th Street, every year during the third week of September we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of the hubbub that accompanies the arrival of world leaders and their delegations. Over the next few weeks in September, we are usually busy assisting the Missions and Embassies with event flowers, welcoming gifts, and floral décor for special events in addition to our everyday NYC flower deliveries.
Creating Event Flowers for NYC’s United Nations Summits
On Monday we got an exciting opportunity to provide floral décor for a special UN Summit Side Event sponsored by the United Republic of Tanzania and held at NYU’s College for Dentistry [Read more →]
Last week, Big Apple Florist got an amazing opportunity to decorate the NYC set of Anderson Cooper’s brand-new daytime talk show Anderson!
Our flowers can be seen next week in the Monday, September, 19 2011 episode. Anderson’s special guest on Monday will be his fabulous Mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, and will feature a musical performance by Judy Collins – Gloria’s favorite singer! The producers asked that we create a colorful display garden of folk-singing flowers, with our inspiration being Judy Collin’s “Wildflowers” Album.
I recently rejoined the team here at Big Apple Florist and I’ve been entrusted to become the next Big Apple Florist Blogger. I hope in the coming months to educate, inform and entertain you! I am passionate about flowers and I love to share my enthusiasm, so I am going to try to use this blog to introduce the general public to the fascinating world of flowers and plants.
About me:
Since 2003 I have worked in many aspects of the floral industry from sales, to design, to management. I first worked at Big Apple in 2007 as primary flower buyer and a floral designer. I left for a few years to try out some other flower studios, recently even making the excursion out to the farthest reaches of northern Queens! And now I’ve happily returned to Big Apple Florist. I’ve had lots of different floral jobs, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and insight.
My favorite aspect of my work, besides just seeing the flowers, is working with customers. I like to get to know people, so I can try to create an arrangement that is really going to make the best impression. [Read more →]
I’ve been thinking a lot about what to write during this beautiful season for flowers. With the vibrant colors featured in our Summer Collection of flower arrangements, it’s hard not to be inspired, and whenever I am inspired I feel like I hear music! (That could also be because they play the radio downstairs whenever I am designing floral arrangements.) I was also thinking how much I would love to hear some readers’ comments!
So, I want you all to help me come up with a
Big Apple Florist Playlist!
To start things off, I’ll make it easy. Send me all the flower songs you can think of, with flowers in the title! Submit your flower song titles to me at Erin@bigappleflorist.com.
I’ll start with a few obvious(ly amazing) flower songs:
Over the weekend, a few of us here at Big Apple Florist participated in the New York AIDS Walk. It was an amazing experience walking with the 45,000 people who were in attendance. It definitely was an inspiration to us to become more involved.
If you missed the boat, don’t fret! We will try to keep you updated on various projects and organizations you can be a part of, because, like you, we are proud to be New Yorkers and we love that our job is to beautify so many homes, businesses, and events in NYC with flower table arrangements, centerpieces, and plants!
There are so many projects that you can be a part of to help continue to green up NYC. This week the spotlight is on theMillion Trees NYC project!
If you’ve ever visited loved ones in the hospital, you know how much their faces light up when they receive gifts or flowers. Diseases like cancer are especially traumatizing experiences, so bringing flowers for cancer patients can be an especially meaningful gesture.
We’ve got some new writers at the Big Apple Florist Blog! Together they’ll be our new blogging team. Without further ado, let’s introduce Lindsey and Sarah:
Lindsey
Lindsey, a new addition to the team, can help you with all your floral needs. She knows all the ins and outs of flower arrangements and plants, so if you’re curious how to choose the perfect gift for that special someone, she’s got the answers!
Lindsey’s favorite flower is the calla lily, preferably yellow, but she would have to say that they are beautiful in all colors. In addition to being new to Big Apple Florist, she is new to New York – originally from Georgia. Lindsey’s ready to talk flowers!
Sarah
Sarah just joined us here at Big Apple Florist, and she can’t wait to share everything you ever wanted to know (and didn’t know you wanted to know!) about flowers, plant care, and anything related. Trivia? Yes. Pop culture? Sometimes. New York romance stories involving bouquets? Definitely. Ancient history facts about plants, flowers, ceremonies, and special events that despite being old are still somehow fascinating? Absolutely!
Sarah’s favorite flower is the hydrangea, especially if she can find a really big, bright pink one. She also loves peach-colored roses on Valentine’s Day and Central Park in the summertime. Originally from California, Sarah’s very excited to be working with the Big Apple’s most gorgeous florist shop!
Here at Big Apple Florist, we like to showcase the freshest, most in season flowers in our arrangements. Each month we feature new arrangements on our website that exemplify what our designers feel are the best flowers as well as the most in demand conceptual styles. For those of you who aren’t flower savvy or who need some visual inspiration when it comes to your floral needs, look no further than our featured arrangements. Find out more about what flowers are in bloom for spring, summer, fall and winter with our list of seasonal flowers.
