Our favorite flowers to celebrate the New Year are bright, brilliant white flowers. White New Year’s flowers symbolize a fresh new start filled with positive resolutions and a clear heart and mind, and a New Year’s centerpiece of fresh white flowers is sure to lend your New Year’s Eve party a positive, hopeful, and optimistic aura.

I have a few people in my life for which it is impossible to buy gifts. They are reformed so they don’t drink alcohol or smoke anymore, and a tower of chocolate covered cherries is simply out of the question. They only read books from the library. They have enough clothes to last them till eternity. They have enough knick-knacks and gadgets to fill a museum. They are curmudgeons, but I love them.
So, what do you give that person who doesn’t want anything? Why not a gorgeous arrangement of festive holiday flowers? Of course they will say, “You shouldn’t have!” and “Why’d you spend all that money when they are just going to die!” Let them.

Hanukkah, known as the “Festival of Light,” begins this week. Each night during Hanukkah, the menorah is lit to celebrate the re-dedication of the Great Temple of Jerusalem after the successful Maccabee Revolt, and the miracle that occurred when the priests lit the menorah for eight days with only a single day’s supply of oil. Hanukkah is a perfect opportunity to celebrate victory, tradition and faith.
Here at Big Apple Florist, we’ve been brainstorming to create fun, festive Hanukkah decorations to accent your celebration. Here are some tips for highlighting your table using Hanukkah flowers this holiday season: [Read more →]

Amaryllis Bouquets for Stunning Christmas Flower Centerpieces
According to the Victorian language of flowers, the amaryllis flower symbolizes Pride, Timidity, and Splendid Beauty. It peaks in holiday month of December, making it an excellent Christmas flower bouquet or addition to your Christmas flower centerpiece. (The amaryllis is also available in all the months with an “r”: September through April.)

Hercules amaryllis sparkle in our “Bright Nights” Christmas flower arrangement – my favorite this month!
Also known as the hippeastrum or “Knight’s Star” (“hippeas”= knight and “astron”=star), amaryllis flowers have hollow stems that can produce 3-5 glorious trumpet-shaped blossoms. [Read more →]

Magical Event Flowers for 583 Park Avenue
Recently, we designed the floral décor for the 2011 Endeavor Gala at 583 Park Avenue in NYC. Our exotic flower arrangements and event flowers were a big hit at the magical event!
The color palette for the Middle Eastern-themed fundraising event was peacock and hot pink. With that inspiration, our event’s flowers and decor made use of colorful Moroccan lanterns, bright pink, aqua and amethyst glass, peacock blue feathers, and “Hot Lady” rose petals to create a lush effect that enhanced the exotic theme of the night.
Each exotic flower arrangement at the event combined flowers with a miniature tableau of lanterns, votives, orchids, and rose petals on a mirrored tray, so the colors and lights were magnified and reflected.
