Most people choose to send flowers using traditional NYC flower delivery, and then there are those few people who have arrangement or delivery requests that are a little bit…strange. Here, we’re sharing some of Big Apple Florist’s most memorable NYC flower delivery stories:
Did Someone Order a Banana?
One of the strangest NYC flower delivery experiences we’ve had was when a customer called up and asked if we would deliver flowers to his girlfriend while wearing a banana costume. We said we would be able to do so if we could find a store that could rent us one. After searching all over the city for a banana costume (which cost him an arm and a leg), we found one! Our delivery driver graciously put on the costume and delivered a beautiful dozen red roses vase arrangement to the customer’s girlfriend, who loved the flowers as well as the costume.
Flowers are so often used as inspiration in fashion, and it’s no surprise that floral fashions are a favorite topic of ours. So, whenever the weather is gray and gloomy, I know I like to keep things bright with some of my favorite floral pieces. There are endless options for any style, budget, or occasion. Here are a few examples of some great floral fashion pieces to add to your current wardrobe:

Over the weekend, a few of us here at Big Apple Florist participated in the New York AIDS Walk. It was an amazing experience walking with the 45,000 people who were in attendance. It definitely was an inspiration to us to become more involved.

Flower Cones for Mother’s Day Bouquets

These cones make it easy to hang a bouquet of flowers on mom’s door in the morning, and it’s a beautiful way to present her with a Mother’s Day gift. To make them, cut some medium-weight paper or cardstock into a perfect square (7×7 inches for small bouquets, and 9×9 for larger bouquets). Decorate 2 edges with decorative scissors or markers, and roll into a cone with decorated sides making the cone face. Secure the outer flap of the cone with craft glue. Punch 6-8 holes in the top of the cone, beginning at top front center, 1 inch apart. Threat a long ribbon through the holes and tie a bow at the front, leaving a long loop in the back to hang your homemade Mothers Day flower cone.
Mother’s Day occurs in the month of May, which is the perfect time of year for blooming flowers. With spring having just sprung, the ideal Mother’s Day flower arrangement for mom is a beautiful spring bouquet! Here are our top picks for Mother’s Day
Our first flower pick for mom is the elegant French Tulip. This classic flower comes in all shades, but our top pick is pink. A tasteful tulip fits beautifully in a compact or airy Mother’s Day flower arrangement and compliments all types of flowers. If your Mom loves French Tulips, take a look at the “Floral Explosion” arrangement in our Mother’s Day collection, which includes hydrangea, roses, orchids, and lilac.
